Unathi Kamlana is the Commissioner of the FSCA. Prior to joining the FSCA in June 2021, he held various senior roles in financial sector policy and regulation, including as Chief Director: Financial Markets and Stability at the National Treasury; Deputy Registrar of Banks at the South African Reserve Bank; and Head: Policy, Statistics and Industry Support at the Prudential Authority.

Unathi has also served on various regulatory forums, including as a member of the Policy Development Group (PDG) of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) and the Policy Development Committee (PDC) of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS). He is a member of the Regional Consultative Group for Sub-Saharan Africa of the Financial Stability Board (FSB).

He holds a BCom (Economics) from Rhodes University, a HDip (Tax Law) from the University of Witwatersrand, MCom (Taxation) from Rhodes University and a MSc Finance (Economic Policy) from the University of London, SOAS
